A pending live 10am service and a live streaming service online
Our 10.00am weekly service is a lively and uplifting service with a relaxed and open style of reflective worship, along with relevant biblical teaching. There is an emphasis on being open to God in prayer and ministry, as we seek to be equipped to live as contemporary Christians in our fast moving culture.
When we can resume our usual services, songs are led by the worship band and we often make space for testimony from the church family. Usually our 10:30am service has a programme for children and we always start the service together with the wider church family before heading out to their group. Children are also welcome to remain in the church with their parents.
For those with much younger children, there’s a creche area with toys in church, so parents can stay and hear the service while the children enjoy themselves.
There’s can be anywhere from 60-90 people at this service and you’d be so welcome to join us! Although the service starts at 10:30am, once it is safe again we encourage you to come earlier at from 10:00am so that you can grab a coffee and chat to folks.

Our 9.00am service is structured in a more traditional way with hymns, songs (once normal services resume), prayer and relevant biblical teaching. Our 9:00am service lasts for approximately one hour. We aim to finish by 10.00am and once safe we give time for coffee and chat with those arriving for 10:30am service.

(Live worship will resume once safe) We use a mix of hymns, current songs, and instrumental creations. We sing in response to God. Who he is and what he has done is his grace in our lives and it propels us to worship. We enjoy the variety between our 9:00am, 10:30am services.
SERMONS
The time when we hear from the Bible is an important part of every service when one of our preachers preach a sermon. Our Pastor and preaching team are committed to treating the Bible with respect by reading within its literary and historical context, attempting to understand the author’s intent, dealing with the specific words, and by addressing how culture and our lives are related to the gospel.
You will find yourself immersed in the story, discover purpose and passion, find practical application for your life today.
We suggest bringing a notepad and pen. Often we conclude with our sermons with prayer ministry opportunities and salvation.
COMMUNION
(Communion will resume once safe) We share in communion on the first Sunday of each month at our 10:30am service and at our 9:00am service on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Communion is open to anyone with a resolve that faith in Jesus Christ is our only hope for us all. The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration and supplication for the grace provided for in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

SPECIAL SERVICES
Adult Baptism at Christ Church
Baptism in Jesus' time it was a pretty common cultural practice. When people converted to Judaism and wanted to become Jews they would baptise them and then there were baptisms for all kinds of stuff, whether it was just washing up for meals or for other religious purification. The whole thing is all about this... water is a natural cleansing agent. That's why most of us take showers regularly and wash our hands. Water makes us clean. In the Bible water is a symbol for spiritual cleansing. We don't just get physically dirty but spiritually dirty. Sin which is our living apart from God, living for ourselves, seeking and enjoying things we know we shouldn't makes our spirit or our soul dirty.
The message of the gospel is that Jesus cleanses us. He takes all of the dirt onto himself on the cross so that we can be forgiven and wiped clean and renewed into a right relationship with God. When that happens in us Jesus says to get baptised to seal the deal. Not because the physical washing of the water actually does anything for us spiritually, but because it's an outward picture or demonstration of what he has done for us spiritually. Believers in Jesus throughout the ages have been baptised as a sign of their love and commitment to him. Being baptised is powerful experience. We baptise believers normally who are part of Christ Church Cottingham, we baptise in public by full submersion (in a pool) normally during a Sunday service.
Infant or child dedication at Christ Church
All though we do not practice the baptism of infants or babies, baby dedication and child dedication are the act of giving back to God the gift he has given you as parents. It is an act of worship, thanksgiving, dependence, trust, and commitment. Child dedication is different from infant baptism or christening. While these rites are significant for a variety of faiths, it is the practice of Christ Church Cottingham to dedicate children. Child Dedications are a great time–you’ll get to introduce your child to the community, and we’ll pray with and for your family and commit to support you as you embark on the awesome journey that is parenthood.
